AUGUST 2011 |
| My
thanks to Grace Wylde and her team for inviting me to
judge again at this very friendly show. I was lucky to
be driven down by Perri Hutchinson, which made a normally
tedious journey very pleasant - thank you Perri. My thanks
also to Stephenie Beirne for her very pleasant and efficient
company as my steward and congratulations on staying the
course after your major knee surgery. |

BEDFORD
& DISTRICT CAT CLUB SHOW - 23.04.2011 |
I
really do take my hat off to Sally for organising and
running this very large show back to back with the Cambridge.
It was a very hot day with no noticeable air-conditioning
in the hall and many small niggling things going wrong.
However, she kept her cool and gave everyone a very good
day out. I was unfortunate enough to have my steward pull
out the day before. Thank you to my friend Tracy Fordham
for coming to my rescue after lunch and helping me handle
some of the side classes. It was so appreciated.

marbling pattern. Head slightly longer than wide with
slightly rounded top to dome. Medium ears wide at the
base. Clear "M" on forehead and pencilling

and would prefer more whisker pads as chin looks slightly
pointed from the front. Hope these will improve as he
matures. Profile shows slight slope to nose and chin
slightly receding. I wasn't a hundred percent happy
about his bite, but as unfortunately I did not have
a steward I was not able to examine it as closely as
I would have liked so gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Shy sweet lad, but didn't like his mouth being examined!

Congratulations
to Pat and her team for another happy well run show
and thank
you for inviting me. I had a large variety of stunning
cats who behaved beautifully and were a delight to handle
which made for a very enjoyable day. I must thank Jan
Ransom for coming especially to steward for me. It was
her first time stewarding but you wouldn't have known
it. She handled the cats with such care and interest.
Here's to the next time Jan.

GR PR FINCH'S PR ZAWADI FIRECRACKER (76 30) M (21.11.08)
Sweet

paws. Tail slightly whippy. Strong bars on legs and
spots on feet. Soft texture to silky glittered coat
with pale gold background showing two-toned rosettes,
some vertical alignment behind shoulders. Well broken
spine line. I would prefer more definition between background
and spots but still showing clear markings. Head slightly
longer than wide with clearly marked vertical lines
over the head from M on the forehead, and pencilling
on cheeks. Medium to large ears. Green expressive widely
spaced eyes set either side of broad even nose. Broad
muzzle showing good whisker pads, pale chin and strong
necklaces. Profile shows slight dip to nose and level
but shallow chin.

A
much younger and smaller girl with a lot to say for
herself! Athletic muscular body feeling much heavier

Coat close lying and sleek with very clear warm chocolate

she was holding her whiskers back. Medium ears of correct

well presented.

1.
MacCLAINE'S BOMBASTIC BUZZ LIGHTYEAR (29.9.10)
Slender
but muscular lad, well grown for age with long tail
that balances body, but unfortunately has small knob
at end. Superb coat, plush and close lying showing three
bright strong colours and glitter. Very random elongated
pattern. Head slightly longer than wide with ears to
grow into. Very well defined facial markings with "M"
on forehead continuing as lines over the back of the
head. Pencilling on cheeks. Widely spaced greenish yellow
expressive eyes. Strong whisker pads for age, although
showing a small pinch at the jaw hinge at present (probably
due to teething).
Gentle slope to nose and shallow but level chin. A striking
looking kitten.

really luxurious effect.
Good tail with black tip. Spots on feet and bottom of
legs. Head slightly longer than wide, medium to large
ears well placed. Well spaced greenish eyes of very
good shape and set. Broad nose and whisker pads forming
well. Profile shows gentle slope to nose and shallow

good depth of flank.
Legs of medium length, strong and muscular. Paws large
and rounded with spots. Long tail with blunt end and

to nose and deep level chin. A delight to handle.
2
EGAN'S ZAWADI SHAKAWA (13.08.10)
Brother
to the above and very similar in many ways although
he has a slightly stronger coat pattern, but his tail
was slightly more whippy and rather long for balance
at the moment. Coat again beautifully glittered with
pale gold background and well defined doughnut rosettes,
although some vertical alignment behind the shoulders.
Lovely desired pale tummy and inside of legs. Super
wild head showing good profile with slight slope to
nose and deep level chin. Medium well set ears with
rounded tips. Expressive well set green eyes with pale
spectacles and broad even nose. Such a difficult decision
to chose between the two brothers, but today, for me,
the tail was the deciding factor. Sweet temperament.

MORTON & HAGLAND'S GLITTERNGOLD ROSE (10.06.10)
A
shy little girl, well grown for age with sleek long
body and limbs and tail to match.
Warm gold rounded paws with spots. Unusual pale grey
plush background to soft textured coat on body , showing
good contrast with two-toned black/brown rosettes and
arrowheads. Wild look to head, slightly longer than
wide with strong lines going from M on forehead over
top of head. Ears large to medium. Pencilling on cheeks.
Greenish yellow expressive eyes round to oval with mascara
rims. Broad nose, showing small dip in profile and shallow
chin. Whisker pads need more time to mature.
2.
O'SULLIVAN'S ZAWADI TWILIGHT (13.08.10)
Sister
to the two boys and it was very interesting to see the
similarities and differences in the three kittens. This
one had a bit of an attitude which contrasted considerably
with her two "soppy" brothers. Muscular feel
to sleek body with balanced limbs and tail. Very spotted
legs and feet. Good contrast to plush softly textured
coat with pale gold glittered background showing off
black/brown spots and arrowheads and busy pattern on
thighs and shoulders. Again lovely and pale underneath.
Head only just slightly longer than wide and looking
a little too domestic at present. Good width to top
of head with medium to large ears with forward tilt.
Broad short brow with pencilling on cheeks. Widely spaced
green oval shaped eyes with pale spectacles. Broad nose
with whisker pads forming. Profile shows slight dip

Lovely
big golden oldie in beautiful condition, body still
feeling muscular and firm. Rounded chest, elegant limbs
and oval paws. Tail a little bony but good shape, just
long enough. Well mingled slightly long tortie coat,
but soft and shiny and lies well.
Lovely head for type with good width to slightly flattened
top, medium ears wide at the base with rounded tips.
Brow a little flat, but rounds out above yellowy-green
expressive eyes of correct shape and set. Blunt end
to balanced muzzle. Profile shows good nose break, straight
nose and deep level chin. Lovely nature.
2.
WILLIAMS' KATSPELL MISS DEARHEART (20.03.10)
What
a sweet young cat, just under a year old and very appealing.
Elegant muscular body, long limbs and neat oval paws.
Tail of good shape, just long enough. Soft well mingled
attractive shiny tortie coat, with unusual cream foot!
Head showing short broad balanced wedge with medium
ears of very good shape and set with rounded tips. Broad,
though slightly flat brow, rounding up above yellowish
expressive eyes of correct shape and set. Blunt end

nose and level chin. A very promising young girl and
very unlucky to meet the winner in the Open Class.

RUFFEL'S BLOOMERS BELCHAMPS BUMPKIN (24.06.10)
Not
a happy boy! Large muscular body with strong limbs and
oval paws. Well rounded chest and tail that balanced,
but unfortunately had a small fault at the end.. Beautiful
texture to rich brown coat, close lying and shiny. I
am afraid that he did himself no favours by distorting
his face and showing his displeasure at being handled.
Slightly rounded top of head with well set ears. Brow
a little flat, but rounded out above clear yellow eyes.
Good nose break, nose rolls off a fraction at leather
and muzzle just a little long for balance at present.

1
& BOB JAMES' FILANDRE CHANSON D'AMOUR (27.10.10)
Well
muscled body for age with correct limbs, oval paws and
balanced tail. Warm even coloured shiny brown coat,
slightly long along back but lies well. Short balanced
wedge with good width to slightly rounded top of head.
Very well set medium to large ears, wide at the base.
Broad rounded brow, widely spaced well set expressive
yellow eyes of correct shape and set. Blunt end to balanced
muzzle. Profile shows rather poor nose break, but level
chin. I noticed she was teething so that was probably
contributory to her lack of defined break. Promising
little girl.

TORTOISESHELL BURMESE KITTEN OPEN (5 Present)
Unfortunately
I had to wrong colour exhibit 340 (Oakenshield Airsandgraces)
so was not able to judge her. I will mention though
that she was a stunning little girl and I look forward
to seeing her again when she has been re- registered.
The
competition between the runners up was very close, and
it was not easy to place second, third and fourth place.
1
& BOB JARVIS' KYMIAN LUCIE LOVEDAY (05.09.10)
A
girl who knows how to show herself off to the best advantage.
Very chatty and forthcoming taking an interest in everything

size, proportionate legs and dainty oval paws. Nicely
rounded chest. Good tail for length and shape. Beautifully
presented soft, slightly long tortie coat. Balanced
wedge with well set ears, widely spaced expressive yellow
eyes of correct shape and set, blunt end to broad muzzle.
Profile shows very good nose break, nose slightly rolling
off at leather and medium depth to level chin. A real
wriggler!
2.
HENRY'S ARLEBURY STELLA BYSTARLITE (14.08.10)
Long
lean muscular body with limbs and tail to match. Longish
tortie coat, a fraction hairy along the back but lies
well. Slightly flattened top of head and ears a little
tall at present. Good width to brow. Widely spaced yellow
eyes of good shape and set. Blunt end to slightly long
muzzle. Profile shows good nose break and level chin.
Sweet nature.
3.
CHASE'S STARRYCHATS KATARINA (07.09.10)
Well
balanced body to this muscular little girl, hind legs
slightly longer than the front and neat oval paws. Soft
texture to shiny close lying coat. Rather flat top head
though brow rounds out above well spaced yellow eyes
of correct shape and set. Medium to large ears, wide
at the base with rounded tips. Blunt end to muzzle.
Profile shows good nose break, slight bump on nose and
end drops off at leather. Level chin. Very easy to handle.
4.
HOPE'S HYPNOS HARLETTA (31.08.10)
Elegant
body, heavier than she looked with balanced limbs and
oval paws.. Correct tail. Soft close lying coat of lovely
texture with well mingled colours apart from an interesting
solid brown foot! Wedge a little unbalanced at present
with flat top of head and medium to large ears set wide
apart. Broad brow above yellow well spaced expressive
eyes. Would prefer muzzle slightly less fine for balance.
Profile shows good nose break, slightly puffed nose
and level chin. Needs to mature.

CAT CLUB SHOW - 19TH SEPTEMBER 2010 |
| What
a pleasure it was to be invited to judge at this very
special Pearl Anniversary show. My very grateful thanks
to Margaret and her team for looking after me so well
and to Emerline Callan for acting as my very competent
steward as well as being great company. The hospitality
during my whole stay was second to none., and I particularly
enjoyed my visit on the Monday to Fota Wildlife Park to
see the cheetahs and other animals. At the show the standard
of the cats was excellent and I had some really lovely
exhibits to judge. Thank you all for making me feel so
welcome.

A chatty little girl and a real tortie wriggler! Strong

spoon shaped paws. Very good tail for shape and length.
Short close lying tortie coat with attractive strong

good nose break, nose has a small bump and rolls off

This lad was not at all happy when I judged him and
I did hesitate awarding the certificate because of his
attitude. However, I felt there was no malice involved,
he was just overawed by the whole proceedings. Well
muscled body with rounded chest. Legs and tail in proportion
to his body. Old-fashioned blue colour to close lying
very well presented sound coat with correct silvering
on extremities. Head had rather flat top and brow, but
rounded out above pale yellow eyes looking a little
round when I judged him. Good nose break and straight
nose. Muzzle looking a little fine and pinched, but
this was probably partly due to stress. Had he been

OF ENGLAND & SOUTH WALES CAT SOCIETY SHOW - 28th AUGUST
2010 |
As
usual, this was a very well-run show and I really enjoyed
my day. Thanks to Grace and her team for inviting me again
and for the excellent hospitality. I must also thank fellow
judge Helen Marriott Power for chauffeuring me when I
was unable to drive due to a recent eye operation. I thoroughly
enjoyed the "Judge's therapy" at Wal-Mart on
the way down, and would recommend it highly to any inspiring
shopper! Thanks must also go to my steward, Annie Coate.
This was her first time stewarding, and her gentle handling
of the cats and interest in the breeds made the day go
very smoothly. Thank you Annie. Would be delighted to
have you steward for me again. .

If
I had had my Asian hat on I would have questioned whether
this girl could be a caramel tortie. However, as this
colour is not recognised in the Burmese, I can only
suggest that she is a very unusual dark colour for a
lilac tortie Burmese, coat tending more to blue than
lilac, and within their colour recognition looked more
like a blue tortie than a lilac in the hall light. Body
muscular and elegant, limbs slender with neat oval paws.
Tail correct shape but would prefer slightly longer.
She had a lovely texture to a very soft and silky coat,
Wedge a little unbalanced at the moment, with muzzle
being slightly fine at the jaw hinge. Top of head slightly

solid at present with just a few rings on underside
of tail with black tip. Coat texture like silk, luxurious
and soft to the touch and well glittered. I would have
preferred more pattern to the coat which was still developing
and not showing as much marbling as one would expect
from a six- month-old kitten. Hopefully this will come
with maturity. Lovely rich rufus colour on paws. Head
slightly longer than wide with vertical streaks over
the head and pencilling on cheeks. Ears medium to large.
Widely-spaced greenish yellow eyes of correct shape

slightly bony at present. Very good coat, close lying
and short with subtle toning of darker colour from the

just a little long at present showing very slight whisker
